Library Staff returns to onsite work (June 1)
Staff will return to the libraries on a staggered schedule to accommodate social distancing.
The staff will be performing such duties as:
• Continuing Virtual Programming
• Redesigning staff work spaces
• Checking in items previously returned
• Running the internal delivery system to move materials between branches as necessary.
Exterior Book Returns are reopened for all LIBRARY materials (No donations!)
The exterior book returns are open for library materials only. The Library System is not able to accept donations at this time.
As quarantine of library materials is the most effective known method of disinfection, all returned materials will be quarantined for 3 days before check-in.
In order to accommodate this time lag, check-in will be backdated to the date of return. While your library record may show that items you have placed in the book returns are overdue, you will not be accruing fines.
Although the quarantine period will not affect fines, we are unable to adjust our circulation system to remove the overdue status of items until they are checked in. Access to some online resources, such as cloudLibrary, may be affected by this time lag.
Again, we cannot accept donations at this time. Please do not place donations in our Book Returns or leave them outside any of our libraries. While the Friends of the Library are grateful for the book donations they receive throughout the year, we must pause donations until further notice. The Friends volunteers hope to be able to accept books again soon.
Library to Go begins June 15
Library to Go will be our takeaway service beginning on Monday June 15. This service will allow library users to come to the libraries to retrieve their ‘takeaway orders’.
• The library staff will pull requested materials.
• You will be contacted to schedule a time for you to pick up your materials.
Due to staggered staff schedules, time and distancing concerns, and in order to serve the greatest number of people, we will ask that you to come to the door for your Library to Go takeaway order.
Specific details for this process will be published closer to the start date.
In the meantime, you can continue to place requests as all items will be pulled from the shelf using our holds list. You can do this either through our online catalog or by calling your home library to request holds be placed for you. Library staff may be available to answer your call or you may need to leave a message. You can also call or email to request items be selected for you, for example “I’d like you to select some beginning readers for my first grader.”
Again, all materials must be placed on hold, there will be no walk-up service and no additional items can be added to the takeaway order at the time of pickup.
While Library to Go will be available, the library buildings will remain closed to the public for face-to-face services.
