Coming Soon, pt 3…

So, how do you get into your account in the new catalog?

Log On grants access to your account information, to write a review, to save lists and searches, to place requests, to add tags, and to view other library databases if applicable.  Click Log On, located below Search Suggestions on the Titles search page or on the upper-right corner of the screen.  An example is shown below.

When you click Log On, a dialog box appears, as shown below.

You have the option in this window to log in with your library ID and PIN or create an EZ Log On.  An EZ Log On is a custom username and password that you set up.

To create EZ Log On credentials, click Log On located below Search Suggestions on the Titles search page or on the upper-right corner of the screen.  When you click Log On, a dialog box prompts for your credentials.  Type your Library ID and PIN credentials.  Then click Create an EZ Log On, as shown in the example below.

After you click Create an EZ Log On, three additional fields appear, as shown in the example below.

Type a new user name in the User Name field.  Your User Name is not case-sensitive and can be used with any combination of the following:  uppercase letters, lowercase letters, symbols, and numbers.

Type a new password in the Password field.  Some systems allow you to have a maximum of up to eight characters.  Your Password is case-sensitive and can be used with any combination of the following:  uppercase letters, lowercase letters, symbols, and numbers.

Re-type your password in the Confirm Password field.  In the event you type two different passwords, a message appears advising, Both password fields must match.  Re-type your password in both fields.

Please remember, you will only want to click the Remember Me button when you’re logging in from a personal computer, not a public computer in the library!

When you are finished, click Finish Creating Your EZ Log On.

Coming Soon, pt 2…

Last week we showed you the new “Book River” feature of the new catalog.  Today, we’re going to take a look at the new Search Results page.

You can see a quick view of the changes in the image below.

(Click image to see larger size)

The middle of the page shows your search results as normal, but let’s take a closer look at those results.

You can see that I did a quick search for Gettysburg and that, according to this view of my search results, I have 52 pages (511 titles) full of results to go through.  On the right hand side of the list of results is an area where I can narrow my results by format, author, series, etc.  If I only want DVDs listed, I can easily click on DVD which is listed on the right and my results will immediately be reconfigured to show only DVD results.

By clicking on the title of the item I’m interested in, I can see the availability of that item.  I can easily place a hold on any item by clicking the Hold button in each record.

At the top of the page, there’s an option to log into my account.  By doing so, I can easily place items on hold and save my search lists so that I don’t have to redo all of my hard work.

There is also a tab at the top left side of the page called Britannica.  If I’m logged into my account, I can easily click on this tab have access to all of the articles available through the library’s Encyclopedia Britannica account, without ever leaving the catalog.

On the extreme right-hand side of the page, you will see a brand new area of the catalog.  We have a link to our downloadable audiobook program, OneClickdigital, and an area that will showcase New York Times Bestsellers as well as new titles that are added to our catalog.  Book covers in this area are clickable and will take you to that item’s record in our catalog.

We will continue with our tour of the new catalog as the week progresses.

Coming Soon…

In the next few weeks, the library will be rolling out a brand new version of our online catalog.  Before we go live with the new catalog, we wanted to give everyone a sneak peek at the new features that will be available.

Probably the most shocking difference with the new catalog is the first page that you will see when you go to the catalog to search for an item.

(Click on image to get a larger view)

You will see a variety of book covers sliding across the screen.  This is our “Book River” that we can use to promote a variety of selections from our catalog. If you see something in the “Book River” that catches your fancy, simply click on the cover of the book and you will be taken to its record in our system.

On the right-hand side of the “Book River” you will see the area that has the basic search box as well as the area that will allow you to log into your account.  Simply click in the blue box that says search, type in your title, author or subject and click on go and you will get your search results.

We will continue the tour of the library’s new catalog over the next few weeks.  Up next will be the search result page.
