Over the past five months, the Adams County Library System (ACLS) has seen a huge increase in the use of cloudLibrary, our ebook and eaudiobook collection.  What you may not know is that these items are three to four times more expensive than their physical counterparts.  To put this in perspective, the ACLS received a $6300 grant from the Adams County Community Foundation Covid-19 Fund to purchase digital books and audios.  This generous grant allowed the purchase of 287 items for the collection.
But the generosity continues…  A thoughtful donor has pledged $5000 for a matching grant.  Make a donation to our Big Change, Big Impact drive to help $5000 become $10,000!  Your dollars will be matched -- $5 becomes $10, $50 becomes $100, $500 becomes $1000.  This is the perfect opportunity for your kind donation to help the digital collection grow, times 2!  The Friends of the New Oxford Library jumped at the chance to double their dollars and made the first donation to Big Change, Big Impact.
The ACLS was happy to welcome library users back when Browsing by Appointment began on Monday, August 3rd.  If you’d like to schedule a browsing opportunity, just call the branch of your choice to make a 30-minute appointment.  Masks are required! The number of visitors at any one time is being limited so that social distancing can be observed.  The Jean Barnett Trone Memorial Library (East Berlin) was not able to begin browsing on Monday, due to staffing.
All of the Adams County Library System branches are continuing to offer Computer Use by Appointment.  One-hour computer use is available, just call the library to schedule a time to fit your schedule.  You’ll need separate appointments for browsing and computer use!
You can still schedule a time to come in and copy, print or FAX, as well. Black and white printing is 10¢, color copies are 25¢ and FAX service is $1.
The very popular Library To Go service will also continue.  Use this service if you are not comfortable coming in for a browsing appointment yet or if you just like the convenience of takeaway service!  Place an online reserve on the items you would like to borrow or call the library for assistance in placing holds.  Once the books are available and ready for pickup, a member of the library staff will call to arrange a time convenient for you.  Items will be checked out once the takeaway time is set so your items are ready to go!
Library by Mail is also available to Adams County residents who are unable to come to the library.  Your choice of up to six books, dvds and/or audiobooks on cd will be mailed to you.  This is a free service, return postage is included!
As a reminder, when returning library items, please use the outdoor book returns as we are following best practices and quarantining books for four days.  And please, no donations until further notice.
As always, thank you for your patience as the Adams County Library System continues to reopen in phases!  The health and safety of the library staff and users is our first concern.
