2020 has been a challenging year and the Adams County Library System has been busy providing services in a very different way!  We are planning a slow return to in-person services while continuing our robust virtual branch.
From mid-March until mid-June, library users have relied on the use of our virtual branch for library services.  Although the ACLS has long provided digital books, audio and information via the Library website, the very creative staff has added virtual programs, such as storytime, book clubs and even an author visit.   And use of our online library is up, we have provided new cards to 307 Adams County Residents and have renewed another 107 cards!
Jamie Ford made a virtual visit to the Adams County Library System (ACLS) on Friday, June 5th.  He donated his time to this ACLS fundraiser!  We spent an enjoyable hour learning about what the author has been doing since we met him at our Signature Event last September.  He has been making other virtual visits, many with high school students.   His first book, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, is part of the curriculum in some high schools.  He has mixed feelings about being homework!  Jamie also read from the book he is currently writing.  I hope he meets his writing deadline as I am looking forward to reading it.  If you were unable to attend the live presentation, a recording is available for purchase at https://adamscountylibrarysystem.square.site/
Library To Go was added on June 15, so that library users can once again borrow physical materials.  To use this takeaway service, library users can place holds through the online catalog or by calling the library and requesting that staff members place the holds for them.  Once the items have been collected and checked out to you, you will receive a call to schedule a pickup time.  So far, this service has been very popular!
Summer Quest has been added as an all virtual program this year.  Library users of all ages can sign up for this annual program.  The events and performers have all been reworked for online presentation.  The Bug Man has already visited!
Looking forward, Get Outdoors Adams County (GOAdams) will begin on July 1st.  This popular partnership with Wellspan encourages families of all ages to visit local parks for exercise and adventure!  Register beginning July 1 for more summer fun.
There are more author visits on the schedule.  For teens, meet award-winning author, A. S. King, as she discusses her novel, Me and Marvin Gardens, and anything else on her mind. The first 75 teens who register will receive their own free copy of the book.
Are you reading the 2020 Adams County Reads One Book selection?  The title was announced last week, it’s The Woman Who Smashed Codes by Jason Fagone.  Our very excellent ACROB chairperson and librarian Jess L. has been able to schedule a virtual visit with the author.  We are looking forward to his visit as well as the many other programs surrounding this title and subject in October.
We hope to “see you” at our virtual programs on the library website and at our Library To Go pickup points!
