What's New in East Berlin?

The Jean Barnett Trone Memorial Library of East Berlin is cracking open its doors! Patrons can make appointments for computer use as well as for copying and faxing services by calling the library. Our “Library to GO” service has provided curbside pick-up for patrons to have access to library materials by placing materials on hold either through our website at www.eastberlinlibrary.org, or by phone. When the materials are available one of our staff calls to set up a pickup time. We are here to help students and teachers in this time of need by loaning out mobile hotspots. We still provide continuous virtual resources on our website. You are able to apply for and also to renew your library card. Our Wi-Fi is still available 24/7.

“Virtual Baby Story Time” is a fun and active story time for Babies and Toddlers with our children’s specialists, Miss Sherry, who shares age-appropriate stories, songs and rhymes. Contact her at sherryf@adamslibrary.org to receive your invite to join this live Zoom event. “Virtual Preschool Storytime” is an exciting story time for children 3-5. Miss Sherry shares age-appropriate songs, stories, and activities by video on our Facebook page. Because children cannot come inside the library to pick out their own books, she will even fill a book bag for you. It will be a mystery what you get! Miss Sherry also introduced another way that the whole family can be engaged in reading together. Every two weeks she sets up a new “Outdoor Story Walk” which includes special activities at each reading station. “Take & Make” debuted in July and provides fun activities assembled in bags to take home. Yellow tags are for preschool aged-children, blue tags are for elementary-aged children, and red tags are for tweens and teens. Bags are available while supplies last and new activities are announced on our Facebook page.

“Summer Quest” provides children with the opportunity to experience everything the library has to offer through reading, program attendance, and participation in activities. Children register for the program and record the activities they complete. Incentives are offered for the completion of certain activities. Find out what's happening for kids by visiting https://www.adamslibrary.org/summerquest. “GO Adams” started on July 1st and runs through August 30th. You will have until September 5th to enter your data into Beanstack. You will earn credit for hikes by entering 4-digit codes, which are on the posts, into Beanstack. Additionally, you can always download hikes and clues from www.goadams.org.

Our library is dedicated to the wellbeing of the children in our community. This year has been extremely difficult for many families. We responded to this hardship with the help of the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the USDA to provide bagged lunches for all children under eighteen years old who visit the library during the week. We plan on continuing this program each summer. Families can come from 11 am-1 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to pick up these lunches. Quantities are limited and are only available on a first come, first served basis. Even with the COVID closings, our library endeavors to serve our patrons. We have chosen to continue to inspire, entertain and educate through this uncertain time.
