Genealogy

The Adams County Library System was founded in 1945 to serve the residents of Adams County.    The library system strives to create a collection of historical research materials.

In addition, the Adams County Library does have a number of items which are very valuable for genealogy research which can be used from your home computer.

The Library System maintains an Obituary Index to the local newspaper.  It is easy to search and copies of the obituary may be ordered from the Adams County Historical Society using this form.

You can also use your Library Card to access Heritage Quest’s large collection of Historical and Genealogical materials.   You may search Census records at this site and print complete pages of Census record books.

Inside the Gettysburg Library, you are able access Ancestry.com and Newspaper Archive.  Unfortunately, these products do not allow us to make them available outside of the library.
