Checking Out and Reading
Check Out and Holds
When you have found a book you would like, click the book’s cover to bring up the “Book Detail” page. Here you can see a summary and similar books in the collection.
Tap the green “Check Out” button to check out the book. If the book is currently checked out, tap the gray “Add to Hold List” button to place the book on your Hold List.
The book will appear on your Currently Reading list and will download to your computer.
Reading on Your Computer
Under the Currently Reading section of My Books, click on the book cover to open it.
The first time you open a book, Cloud Library needs to activate an Adobe ID.
If you do not have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer, you will be given the option of using a system-provided Adobe ID or using your own. Make your choice and click “OK” to proceed.

If you already have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer authorized with your personal Adobe ID, the Cloud Library app will use your personal ID to continue. You will see this message:

The book will open in a 5th tab, to the right of “My Books”:

Use the arrows on the right and left of the book’s pages to move through the books.

Click the upper right corner of the book for more options:
Click the i icon for book details.
Click the large and small “A” icon to change text size.
Click the magnifying glass icon to search inside the book by keyword.
Click the square box to add bookmarks or notes.
Transferring to Your eBook Reader
Turn on your eBook reader and connect it to your computer.
In the Cloud Library app, go to the “My Books” tab. Once the app has recognized your device, you should see a “connected to device” message and green “download to device” buttons for each book you have downloaded to your computer.

Click the green “download to device” button to transfer the book to your eBook reader.
When you are done transferring eBooks to your reader, eject the device. The book should now be available on your reader. (Some readers will file the title in a folder called “Digital Editions”.)
The following eBook readers are compatible with Cloud Library:
- Nook
- Literati Reader
- Sony Reader (older models only, not the PRS-T1)
- Kobo Reader
Holds
You can hold up to 10 books at a time. When a book becomes available, a message will appear in your Message Center under My Books. Books are held for seven days from the time they become available to you.
Add to Wish List
As you browse the catalog, you may see some books listed under “Similar Books” that are titles not in the Saint Paul Public Library collection. Tapping “Add to Wish List” will add the item to your wish list and send a message to the library’s selectors asking them to purchase the title.
Check In
Books will automatically be returned to the collection after 21 days. If you would like to return a book early, go to “My Books” and click “List View”. Click the red “Check In” button in the row for the book you would like to return.
