Your library is working on a bunch of events, big and small, for all to enjoy. From our storytimes, block parties, book discussions, and cookbook clubs to FunFest and the Signature Event, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Love to talk about books with other people? You have your chance to do just that with the library system. Each branch hosts a book club, and each is open to anyone to join. The Gettysburg Library currently has two book clubs for adults – the Historical Fiction Book Discussion which meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 1pm and the Mystery Book Discussion, which meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30pm.
Two of our libraries are hosting Cookbook Clubs! The premise is simple. There’s a specific theme for each meeting, you make a dish that fits that theme at home and bring it to the library for the meeting where we dine and discuss. The library at Carroll Valley will be hosting their next Cookbook Club meeting on Thursday, March 29th at 6:30pm. They will be dining on Mexican Food. At the Gettysburg Library, the Cookbook Club meets bimonthly on the 2nd Thursday. We just enjoyed foods from the United Kingdom and will next be enjoying Mexican Food on Thursday, May 10th at 6:30pm. Future recipe selections for the Cookbook Club at Gettysburg will include Picnic Foods, Indian Food, and favorite Holiday recipes.
As we get closer to summer, you can’t forget about FunFest! This year, FunFest returns to the Gettysburg Rec Park on Friday, June 8th from 4-7pm. This free event features free activities for the entire family, face painting, balloon artists, food and vendors. It’s a great time and perfect way to kick off summer fun!
The Adams County Library System would like to invite you to purchase tickets to our second Signature Event – An Evening with Christina Baker Kline, the New York Times bestselling author of ‘Orphan Train’ and her newest novel, ‘A Piece of the World’. Tickets, and more information, are available via the library’s website at www.adamslibrary.org or at any branch in the library system. Tickets to this event include a cocktail mixer, silent auction, dinner with a presentation by Christina and a book signing opportunity. The event will take place on Friday, September 28th at 6:00pm at the Gettysburg Wyndham. Advance tickets are required and must be purchased by September 19th. All proceeds from the Signature Event support the library system’s greatest needs.
We’re adding new events all the time to our calendar. Check with your library or our website for the latest information. And don’t forget to look for the announcement of this year’s Adams County Reads One Book Title on June 29th!
