How to become a borrower?
All residents of Adams County age five and over are eligible for a library card. Valid identification
and a parent's signature are required (for children under 16).
Your card may be used at any library
in Adams or York counties.

How to place a hold at home?
You can place hold requests for any titles that can be checked out (anything except reference books).
To place a hold, you must have a library card from the Adams County Library System (Gettysburg, Littlestown,
Arendtsville, New Oxford, and East Berlin). You'll need the card because the numbers on the back are
your ID and PIN numbers.
To place a hold, search for the title of interest in the online catalog. When the title is displayed
click on the title to display the call number and subject headings, then select
HOLD REQUEST BUTTON.
The request form will be displayed.

Enter the Patron ID number (the barcode number on the back of your card), press
TAB, and enter the
PIN (the last 4 nmbers of the barcode). Press
TAB again and
ENTER, or simply select the
Submit Request button.
If you've entered the Patron ID or PIN incorrectly, a message similar to this will be displayed:
Your hold request failed for the following reason(s): The Patron ID number or PIN is not valid.
If you have this problem please contact the library.
If you've placed the hold successfully, you'll see the following message:
Your hold has been approved for:
Author: ........
Title: .........
The hold on this item will expire on .......
If any copies of the title are available (not checked out), the locations will be shown under the author and title
display. You can place hold requests even if items are currently available.
**The book will be sent to your home library. When the book is available for you to pick up, your
home library will notify you.

What is the My Account feature?
The
My Account feature lets you examine the information in your patron file on the library automation system,
renew items, and determine the position of on-hold items on the Holds list. This password-protected file includes
notification/billing information and the status of your holds, fines, checkouts, etc., for your account.
To view your patron information click the
My Account buttom on the
Online Catalog Page to reach the
request form. Enter the
Patron ID number, press
TAB, enter the
PIN, and select the
Submit
Button. The Patron Information window will appear. If you have items checked out or on hold, they will be listed.
You may renew items from this window by clicking the
Renew Checked Items buttom. (If you do not have this
information, check with the Circulation Desk.)

How do I search the Catalog?
The Adams County Library System is proud to annouce the implementation of a new online public access catalog that
is available to you at home through the Internet. Just type in
www.adamslibrary.org and choose the link
ONLINE CATALOG. From this screen, you will be able to search the library system's entire catalog including
all of the branch and satellite libraries. You will also be able to see what books you have checked out and put holds
on books that you'd like to read.
A user can also click on the
Search Catalog box on the
www.adamslibrary.org to quickly search the
catalog from the main page. Upon clicking on
Search Catalog the input box will clear and allow you to
type in your search query. Next, press
ENTER and a search of the library's catalog will be performed.

How do I sign up for a class?
You can sign-up for a class at either the
Class Description area or the
Class Schedule area. At the class
description area all classes that are available will have
Sign-up Now link that will take you directly to the
class sign-up form; click
attend to sign-up. At the class schedule area all upcoming classes will be listed on
a calendar for your convenience. Please click on the class that you would like to take and click
attend.

How do I sign up for a special program?
To sign up for a special program that requires a reservation you can call any of the branches of the Adams County Library
System and a librarian will assist you. To find the hours and phone numbers of the branches please to either the
About area or the
Branches.
Please Note - Not all programs require a RSVP so please read all the
all the information!
