Library By Mail

Could you, or someone you know, benefit from this service?

WHAT IS IT?

The Adams County Library System will send library materials by mail to any resident of Adams County unable to visit a library who is temporarily or permanently handicapped, elderly or ill.

Regular or large print books, audiobooks on cd, music on cd, or dvds may be borrowed and will be sent to your residence.  A new request form will be included so that you may list titles or authors to be sent in the next shipment.

Postage for delivery and pick up is prepaid, so there is no cost to you. The mailing label can be turned over and used as a postage-paid return label.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?

To register for the LIBRARY BY MAIL service, fill out the form included in the registration packet and return it to the Adams County Library System, or click here for the online registration form.

To register for the LIBRARY BY MAIL service, you must have a current Adams County Library card.  A library card application is included in this LIBRARY BY MAIL registration packet.

If you need a library card, you can apply online as well.  In the SEARCH OUR CATALOG list at the right of the screen, choose  APPLYING FOR A LIBRARY CARD.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Outreach Department will send you 3 – 4 items at a time.  When you return those items, new items will be sent.  The loan period is three weeks. Overdue fines are not charged on Library By Mail items.

When you borrow though LIBRARY BY MAIL, you will have several ways to select your materials.

  1. You can ask that the library staff choose your items for you using the interest categories you chose when registering.
  2. You can fill out the LIBRARY BY MAIL request form included in each shipment of items.  List either titles or authors of items you would like.
  3. You can visit www.adamslibrary.org, log into your account and place items on hold.
  4. You can call the Outreach Department at the Gettysburg Library at 334-5716, extension 229.
