Harbaugh~Thomas Happenings @ Harbaugh-Thomas
Fri, Sep. 5th 12:33 pm

Pull out the crazy streamers and the party hats because the Harbaugh~Thomas Library celebrated its one year anniversary on August 20!  And while the staff did not spontaneously sing “Happy Birthday” as every patron walked in the door, it was easy to remember the images of the previous year, when hundreds of community members visited for the very first time to much celebration and excitement.  The community’s continual support and generosity has made the Harbaugh~Thomas Library what it is today: a welcoming community center to check out books and movies, use one of the five Internet computers, and/or sit and read for hours.  From the library staff, thank you!

Throughout this past year, the library has offered exciting programs for all ages.  Storytime programs began, and are currently held, on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm and Wednesday mornings at 10:30am.  Personally, I look forward to storytime each week because I cannot wait to see the reactions the kids have to the stories and the crafts.  Tuesday evening storytimes are geared for the whole family, with stories for younger and older children; Wednesday morning storytimes are geared for children aged 2-5.  No registration is required.  Check out the website at www.adamslibrary.org/HT to view pictures from previous programs and to see what is new at the library.

Many patrons enjoyed the library’s movie nights.  Past movies have included a trip on a magical train to the North Pole, a visit from the world’s most famous nanny, and a journey to see the Wizard.  On Tuesday, September 16 at 6pm, come see the movie based on a Roald Dahl book, starring Johnny Depp as the zany Willy Wonka.  Looking for something to do on a Friday night?  Check out the movies playing once a month based on a novel by our Class Author of the Month.  Starting in January of this year, the library has picked a different classic author each month, showcasing books by and about the author.  In September, the library will feature HG Wells, and on Friday, September 26 at 7pm, come see the remake of one of Wells’ novels, starring Tom Cruise.  As always, snacks and drinks are provided.

September and October mark the last two months for the basic computer classes at the Harbaugh~Thomas Library.  Introduction to Microsoft Word will be held on Thursday, September 18 at 1pm and 6:30pm.  Choose which time works best for you. Space is limited, so call the library today.

Thanks to interested community members, the library is pleased to announce a book discussion group meeting once a month at the library.  This month’s discussion will take place on Thursday, September 11 at 6:30pm.  Joyce Carol Oates’ book “The Gravedigger’s Daughter” will be discussed.  No prior registration is required.  For more information, please contact the library.

The Harbaugh~Thomas Library is located at 59 West York Street in Biglerville.  The hours of operation are Mondays 12pm-6pm; Tuesdays 12pm-8pm; Wednesdays 10am-6pm; Thursdays 12pm-8pm; Fridays 10am-6pm; and Saturdays 9am-5pm.  Please call with any questions at 717-677-6257.  Here’s to many more years of success and fun at the Harbaugh~Thomas Library!
